Action For Sport (AFS) School Partnership Programme Agreement

Supporting schools to expand student participation, environmental sustainability and community engagement.

The Action For Sport (AFS) School Partnership Programme (SPP) works in collaboration with schools to expand opportunities for young people through sport, education, community engagement, and environmental responsibility. We support schools in delivering positive outcomes in participation, wellbeing, and student engagement.

Our aim is simple: to ensure every child has the opportunity to experience the benefits of sport, regardless of background or circumstance. We are equally focused on empowering young people — giving them the confidence, voice, and opportunity to actively participate, contribute, and take ownership within their schools and communities.

By partnering with schools, AFS supports initiatives that encourage physical activity, strengthen community connections, support disadvantaged students, and promote sustainability through recycling and student-led initiatives that build responsibility and ownership.

This partnership is designed to be simple and practical, complementing the work schools already do and providing additional resources and opportunities. The programme aligns with schools’ priorities around personal development, wellbeing, behaviour, and enrichment, while remaining easy to implement within existing structures. Through positive engagement, the programme helps develop positive peer and community role models within the school and wider community.

The programme is flexible and can be adapted to support individual schools, multi-academy trusts, colleges, universities, and other education providers.
Working together, we can make a real difference. We welcome conversations with schools and education partners interested in exploring how the Action For Sport School Partnership Programme can support their students and communities.

What Action For Sport Provides

The programme provides practical support, resources, and opportunities that help schools increase sporting participation, strengthen community engagement, support improved attendance, behaviour, and student engagement, develop student leadership, and empower young people to take an active role in community and sustainability initiatives within their school.

1. Discounted Sportswear and Equipment

Partner schools gain access to discounts from a network of sportswear and equipment suppliers, helping reduce costs while ensuring students have access to quality sports provision.

2. Volunteer Programme – (e.g. AFS Group/Team/Committee/Society)

AFS supports schools in developing a student-led volunteer group, empowering students to take ownership of charity, sport, and community engagement activities within the school and local community.

3. Community Recycling Initiatives

AFS helps schools introduce or expand recycling initiatives that promote sustainability while supporting access to sport and community engagement.

4. Schools in the Community

We help strengthen links between schools and their communities, connecting schools with other schools, clubs, partners, and opportunities for collaboration in local areas.

5. Supporting Children Most in Need

AFS prioritises helping children and young people facing barriers to participation by improving access to sport and educational opportunities, while building confidence, resilience, and a sense of belonging. Further specific and direct support opportunities can be discussed directly with each school or MAT partner.

6. Resource Pool and Educational Support

Partner schools have access to a range of AFS resources, including:

What We Ask From Partner Schools

To ensure the partnership is effective and delivers meaningful impact for students and the wider community, we ask partner schools to support the following commitments. These commitments are designed to be simple and manageable within existing school activities.

1. Named School Contact

Nominate a designated staff member who will act as the main contact and supervisor for the AFS partnership.

2. Termly Activity Update

Complete a short update form once a term so AFS can track activities, participation levels, and programme impact.

3. Awareness and Fundraising Day

Host at least one Action For Sport awareness and fundraising event each year. These events raise awareness of the charity, promote the benefits of sport and community engagement, and support your school’s ongoing participation in the programme. Funds raised go directly to Action For Sport’s Pay It Forward Fund, enabling us to support the next school and ensuring the programme remains sustainable and impactful for all.

4. Promotion and Story Sharing

Schools work with AFS to share positive stories and outcomes, including promotion through school newsletters, communications, and social media where appropriate.

5. Compliance with School Policies

All activities in association with Action For Sport must follow school policies, health and safety procedures, and appropriate event planning and risk assessment processes. Schools are responsible for ensuring appropriate insurance is in place for all activities, and that students and participants always remain under the supervision and responsibility of the school or partner organisation.

What this looks like in practice

In most schools, the programme is delivered through simple, existing structures. This typically includes a small student-led group or committee, organising one awareness and fundraising activity each year, arranging a straightforward recycling initiative, and supporting wider awareness and community initiatives. The programme is designed to be flexible and low-burden, fitting easily within the school environment while creating meaningful opportunities for student involvement, leadership and engagement.

Our Shared Goal

Through this partnership, AFS and partner schools work together to create meaningful opportunities for young people while strengthening sport participation, wellbeing, sustainability and community engagement within schools.

Together we aim to:

By working together, we can ensure more young people benefit from sport, education, and strong community support that helps them thrive.

Partnership Commitment

The Action For Sport School Partnership Programme is built on collaboration, shared values, and a joint commitment to improving opportunities for young people through sport and community engagement. By joining the AFS School Partnership Programme, the school and AFS commit to working together to support the aims and activities outlined in this partnership. This partnership is designed to be simple, flexible, and beneficial for schools while helping expand opportunities for young people.
